Explanation
Looking at the Tableu project above, I took a huge data set and turned it into information that is clear and usable. The project highlights varying heights of men and women while also comparing it to the country of origin. As can be seen, the average height of men is much higher than women, which is to be expected. However, looking at the map, it is evident that average height tends to increase the further you go from the middle east with South America being an outlier. Trying to determine all of this using just the excel file would be daunting to say the least and is the reason Tableu is so useful.
Benefits of Tableu
As I mentioned earlier, Tableu is a great website that allows you to take lots of data and turn it into something that is easy to look at and understand. Simply using the excel features is not at effective for conveying information because there are simply less features. For example, graphs and figures can be created using excel, but with Tableu those graphs can be connected. Using sliders and putting multiple graphs on one page allows the graphs to move in sync and change according to only one variable such as time. This feature is great for showing how different trends are seen over a period of time and give more insight to the situation.
How I use it
For both professional and personal projects, using this program makes everything look more professional and get the main points across efficiently. As of right now, I create projects for school, and also pitch ideas to my friends for various things. For the future, being a supply chain and operations major, I could use this skill to explain how certain processes could be slowing down production and flush out ways they could be fixed. Moreover, I could exemplify how fixing the issue would help the company succeed in an easy to understand fashion and would more likely be implemented. All this together, presenting ideas using this platform is a great skill to have and has helped me tremendously. Below I have included an example of how to use sliders to change variables on a graph of the United States.
